The Virgin Money Giving page for Henry Worsley’s Shackleton Solo expedition has seen a huge increase in donations since his death was announced on 25th January.
Worsley died in hospital on the 24th January from peritonitis, after being rescued just 30 miles short of his goal. He had completed 913 miles in 71 days. His aim was to raise £100,000 with a solo expedition commemorating the centenary of Shackleton’s Endurance expedition, with the hope of becoming the first person to cross the continent of Antarctica unassisted and unsupported.
Since the announcement, donations have more than doubled, in turn more than doubling his original target amount with a current total of over £230,000, including Gift Aid. Just over £206,000 of the total has been raised through his Virgin Money Giving page.
The money raised by his trek is for The Endeavour Fund, which grants money to help wounded servicemen and women undertake activities in the physical arena as part of their rehabilitation process.
