Seth Godin got one of those puzzling memos that nobody reads. And wondered what it would take to get it read. Here's what he came up with: Get your memo read. This is worth a look, because these tips also work for fundraising messages ... so many of which nobody reads.

Seth says do these things:

  1. Pattern interrupt. (Do something odd or unexpected. That is much less likely to be ignored.)
  2. Write a story. (Automatically more interesting than all the important facts in the world -- especially when you make the story about the donor!)
  3. Frame the story. (Put it in the donor's world. Why does it matter to her?)
  4. Chunk the message. (One call to action. No more than that.)
