INDIANAPOLIS -- A young boy once called a superhero by his second-grade classmates received a new heart on Friday.
Michael Deiter, 8, was born with severe heart defects and has been waiting 100 days at Riley Hospital for Children for a lifesaving transplant.
Michael has undergone more than one dozen surgeries for his heart. Everything took a turn Thursday afternoon when his mother Jennifer Gray received a call.
"When the phone rang, I just had a feeling. I can't even describe it, I just knew," Gray said.
A transplant nurse was on the other line to share the news that a donor heart had been found for Michael.
There was excitement, yet fear and worry and sadness, because I knew what was happening on the other end," Gray said.
