Big Give Christmas Challenge application deadline extended to 15 July

Applications for the Big Give Christmas Challenge will remain open until 5pm on Friday 15 July, a two-week extension from the original deadline. 

The campaign runs from 29 November – 7 December, and offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donations doubled. Up to £25,000 worth of match funds is available from the Big Give’s Champions, who look to support a multitude of different causes.

A report commissioned by the Big Give showed that:

• More people give when their donations are match-funded. 84% of respondents felt they were more likely to give if matching was offered. 
• Some donors give more when their donations are match-funded. The average matched gift made through the Big Give is £333, while the average unmatched gift is £132. One in three donors said they gave a larger gift because matching was applied to their donation.

The Big Give has announced that it is expecting the largest amount of Champion match funding ever distributed through the 2022 Christmas Challenge. A number of Champions have been confirmed so far with more to come. These include:

• The Reed Foundation – supporting charities across a wide range of cause areas including UK, International development, Arts/Culture, Environment/Animals. 
• DCMS – supporting charities working to improve the lives of vulnerable, disadvantaged or underrepresented women and girls in England and Scotland. 
• The Childhood Trust – supporting charities which alleviate the impact of poverty for children and young people living in London.
• Four Acre Trust – supporting charities working with children and young people (up to age 25) in the UK with an income of <£1m. 
• The Wiltshire Match Fund – supporting charities making a difference to people in Wiltshire.
• Helen & Michael Brown Charitable Trust – supporting high-impact charities across a range of cause areas, including health, environment, education, homelessness, food poverty, and cost of living crisis. 

To be eligible to take part in the Christmas Challenge, Charities need to be registered or have a charitable exempt status granted by HMRC. They also need a minimum income of £25,000 and to have at least one year’s accounts filed with the respective charity commission (or Companies House, if they have exempt status).
