Do you ever hit writer's block -- that nasty sense that no good words will come no matter how hard you try? Here's some help from Goins, Writer, at What's Really Happening When You Get Writer's Block (and How to Overcome It).

Writer's block is an excuse. It's usually some form of fear: fear of failure, fear of making enemies, even fear of success. Here's how to attack the problem:

  1. Acknowledge the resistance (take a look at yourself and understand what's blocking you)
  2. Identify the root problem (look the fear right in the eye)
  3. Ask what's the worst that can happen (usually, you see that the worst isn't all the bad ... or letting the block keep you from writing is worse than avoiding the task!)

When you're looking at writer's block that seems impossible to beat, ask yourself: Do plumbers get plumber's block? I bet they do. But you never hear about it, because people would laugh at them.

That's why when I feel the block coming near, I think of myself as a plumber. Just do the job, even if you're blocked.
