International law firm Clifford Chance has opened applications for its annual, global United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) Award, with the winning nonprofit to receive £50,000 and 500 pro bono hours.

The award supports educational focused nonprofit organisations and is aligned with the United Nations SDGs.

This year, the award is focusing on SDG 4, the aim of which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The award is open to NGOs and educational institutions around the world, including schools and universities, whose work is aligned with this particular SDG.

The judges are looking for award submissions that demonstrate a commitment to innovative approaches towards the achievement of this goal, and those with the potential to be replicated and scaled. All entries will be judged by the same criteria, irrespective of size, geographical location, or previous interaction with Clifford Chance.

Environmental protection charity Plan Vivo was the recipient of last year’s award, which focused on environmental causes. Clifford Chance’s pro bono support and funding is currently helping Plan Vivo to work on several areas, including biodiversity standards and carbon rights as well as a review of its commercial agreements and marketing strategy.

This year’s key application process dates are:

  • Application process opened on 13 June 2022 and can be accessed here
  • Application process closes on 22 July 2022
  • Winner announced October 2022

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel led by Jeroen Ouwehand, head of the Clifford Chance ESG board, as well as other Clifford Chance representatives, the firm’s strategic pro bono partners, and clients.
