Eight weeks after a kidney transplant you can hear changes in the voices of Daniel Thelen and Joyce Williams.
There’s more energy.
A sense of optimism.
Gratitude to their donors.
“I’m actually doing really well,” said Williams, of Milwaukee. “Almost immediately I could tell a difference. It’s just amazing to see the transformation.”
The pair were part of a transplant involving four people at Froedtert & the Medical Hospital of Wisconsin Feb. 10. The operation was a chance at a new life for both – and in a very real sense it was another chance at life.

More than 2,000 people in Wisconsin are in need of organ transplants. Nationwide that number is more than 120,000 people, which is why Green Bay Packer Randall Cobb teamed up with Froedtert & the Medical Hospital of Wisconsin and USA TODAY NETWORK – Wisconsin to draw attention to the need for donors during April, which is designated as Donate Life Month.
