ND family inspiring people to become donors through daughter's story

Fargo, ND (Valley News Live) There are more than 120,000 people in the nation waiting for an organ transplant. After losing their daughter, a North Dakota family is sharing her story to inspire others to become donors.

For most teenagers, getting behind the wheel is the highlight of being 15, but for Kelsey Misialek, she felt joy in another way.

"She came out all excited and not because she got a license but because she checked that box and had the donor ID on her card," Kelsey’s dad Kevin Misialek said.

Soon, that came to an end. Kelsey was in an ATV accident. After five days in the hospital and two brain surgeries, she couldn't be saved.

"That’s how she perceived life too, she wanted to pay forward anyway she could. For our family it gave us peace and comfort to know that apart of her lives on," Kelsey’s mom Michaela Misialek said. Continue reading
