SUPPORTING a family and being part of the organ donation decision-making process at such a tragic time is a privilege, according to Toowoomba Hospital's Liz Hill.
Ms Hill is a donation specialist nurse and clinical nurse consultant.
"Often, donation is the only good thing to come out of a tragic situation," she said.
"While it could never take the pain away for a family, it can give them some comfort at a sad time. I work closely with doctors to ensure the wishes of our patients and their families are carried out."
As well as helping families and educating the community about organ and tissue donation, Ms Hill said she also spent time working in the hospital ward, providing nursing care to critically ill patients.
