Mourners were told at Pa Bowens’ funeral that the lives of a man and woman had been saved by Pa’s donated kidneys.

A BUILDER WHO died in an accident preparing for his mother’s funeral has been hailed a hero after it emerged that two people had a new lease of life after receiving his kidneys.

Mourners at the funeral of Pa Bowens in Cloonfad in Co Roscommon were told that a man in his 50s and a 38-year old woman had successfully received his kidneys.

The 44-year old father of three died in a tragic accident which has shocked the rural community in Cloonfad on the Roscommon-Galway border.

He died on Wednesday two days after suffering serious injuries when he fell from a ladder as he erected lights at his mother’s home as they prepared for her funeral.

Mary Bowens died in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin last Sunday and the family’s grief was compounded when her eldest son suffered fatal head injuries the following day. Continue reading
