WEST BLOOMFIELD — After seeing a report of a local teenager’s organs being used to save numerous lives, a Bloomfield Hills man decided to give one of his kidneys to save the life of a man he’s never met.
He now is using the experience to encourage others to learn more about organ donation.
Temple Shir Shalom, 3999 Walnut Lake Road, will host a National Organ Donor Shabbat at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, to encourage people to learn more about organ donation. One speaker at the event will be James Baker, a local lawyer who donated one of his kidneys about two months ago.
Baker saw a news report about 19-year-old Emily Stillman, who died in February 2013 of bacterial meningitis, and how her parents decided to donate her organs to Gift of Life Michigan. Continue reading
