Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe and the European Foundation Centre have merged to become Philanthropy Europe Association – Philea.

Philea’s purpose will be to harness the potential of philanthropy in Europe by combining and leveraging the knowledge and experience of both organisations.

Philea will support networks in over 30 countries, uniting more than 10,000 foundations in Europe and around the world, and will be based in Brussels.

Delphine Moralis, previously the CEO of the European Foundation Centre, will be Philea’s CEO. She said:

“Philanthropy in Europe plays a unique, risk-taking role in sparking innovation and acting as a catalyst for good. Together we are stronger, and will strive to inspire, connect and represent the European philanthropy sector and enhance its role as a credible and trustworthy partner, today and tomorrow.”

Max von Abendroth, who was Executive Director of Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe (Dafne) and is now Chief Strategy Officer of Philea also commented, saying:

“Philea’s values reflect a commitment to the principles of trust, collaboration, transparency, innovation, inclusion and diversity – all of which are needed now more than ever considering the critical challenges our societies are facing.”
