With the end of the year roaring toward us -- that time when nonprofits raise a third to half or even more of their revenue -- it's more important to have a plan and stick to it!

But that can be hard. Human and organizational tendencies can knock us off plan -- and cost us dearly.

The Better Fundraising blog has an interesting look at how to stay with the plan, at Why We Are All Hypocrites About Fundraising Plans:

  1. Know how much money is at stake, and what percentage it is of your income. Not everyone is equally aware of exactly how big a deal year-end is. Keep the goal in mind!
  2. Prioritize your priorities. Put it in writing. Don't let something minor but interesting keep you from finishing something that's going to raise a lot of money.
  3. Publish your plan. It's a lot easier to stay on task when not doing so is visible to everyone!

Year end is a time for focus and discipline. These things will help keep everyone on task.
