This summer will see 50 individually painted Oor Wullie sculptures placed across Dundee and Tayside to pay for a new operating suite at Tayside’s Children Hospital.
The sculptures of Oor Wullie sitting on his bucket will form the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail for 10 weeks. Businesses and individuals will be able to sponsor a sculpture and once the trail ends in September, the sculptures will be auctioned off with all proceeds going towards The ARCHIE Foundation’s appeal for £2m towards the new twin operating surgical suite at Tayside’s Children Hospital.
The project is a collaboration between The ARCHIE Foundation, DC Thomson and Wild in Art. Artists were invited to submit designs for decorating the sculptures earlier this month with those selected commissioned to customise one of the sculptures with their design.
Suzanne Scott, artist co-ordinator for Oor Wullie’s Bucket Trail said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Dundee’s creative offering to what is set to be a huge audience. Similar events have generated enormous interest, creating massive footfall and generating widespread media coverage making this a great platform for any creative individual. Best of all, the sculptures are set to be auctioned off after the summer, to raise money for The ARCHIE Foundation.”
