First cooler used for transplant, KVUE

AUSTIN -- Seton Medical Center in Austin on Friday observed 30 years of being the only hospital in Central Texas to perform heart transplants.

Physicians and former patients gathered at the hospital to exchange memories.

"To look around and know that each individual story is so touching and so poignant that's why we do this," said Dr. Bill Kessler.

"The flu damaged my heart, and I had to have a new heart," said transplant recipient D.J. Ellison.

Numbers on name tags show the order in which each person underwent a heart transplant.

"My heart come from Little Rock, Arkansas," said Harold Washington.

That's all he knows about the 19-year old whose heart gave him a second chance. Continue reading
