Justin Stout, 14, is a lot like other kids his age. He loves playing video games with friends, building forts and watching Aggie football games. He dreams of one day attending Texas A&M University and becoming an oncologist. But one thing sets him apart. Justin is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or ALL – which led him into acute liver failure and a coma.
On March 16, 2015, at 5 p.m., Justin was put on the waiting list for a new liver. By 10:30 p.m. that same day, he received a new diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and due to that he was removed from the transplant list. But two days later, as Justin's health continued to decline, a few doctors rallied for him to be put back on the list so he could have a chance to fight the cancer.
Justin received his new liver on March 31, 2015. He didn’t even know he needed a liver transplant until three hours prior to his surgery, because he had been in a coma for nine days.
While the transplant gives him hope in his fight, he still must go through many rounds of chemotherapy – a three-year journey. But Justin isn’t your ordinary teenager. Despite his difficult circumstances, he spreads hope to others by remaining happy and positive. Continue reading
