The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) has announced that Independent News and Media (INM) will be the main sponsor of its annual Daffodil Day appeal which will begins this week. As part of the sponsorship INM has adopted the signature Daffodil, associated with the national cancer charity, within the logos of the Irish Independent newspaper and Independent.ie website, respectively the largest print paper and news website in Ireland. “We’re delighted that Independent News and Media has come on board to support our 2016 Daffodil Day campaign and we’re particularly thrilled to see our signature Daffodil take prominence both online and in print,” CEO of the ICS, John McCormack, said. Speaking of the partnership, Lia Bresnihan, Head of Digital Marketing, INM said: “We are honoured to work with and support the Irish Cancer Society this year on what is a media first for us. Digitally we reach 9.7m people per month on Independent.ie and daily we reach 688,000 readers in the Irish Independent.” The Daffodil Day appeal is the largest fundraising campaign in Ireland and in 2015 raised €3.3 million for the ICS, down from €3.4 the year before. In 2012 the campaign raised €2.5 million. ICS raised €23 million in 2015. The town of Drogheda takes part in the event by turning yellow for the day. Last year's event helped them raise €102,000 for the Irish Cancer Society. As well as selling daffodil emblems with the aid of thousands of volunteers, the campaign has evolved since it was launched 30 years ago to include online, telephone and text donations. https://twitter.com/IrishCancerSoc/status/843842169056256001
