David Beckham, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney are among a number of famous football players teaming up in a bowel cancer awareness campaign, launching today (21st March).  The campaign is part of a new health awareness campaign from the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK and the England Footballers Foundation. It aims to show the UK public that there is ‘Moore to Know’ about bowel cancer with twelve of England’s biggest current and former players uniting in a video and set of images. This is the first time former England stars David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville, John Terry, Michael Owen and David James have joined forces with current members of the England squad for a charity campaign. It marks the 10th anniversary of the England Footballers Foundation, which was set up in 2007 by footballers who wanted to donate their match fees to raise money for charitable organisations. The film footage sees the footballers talk about how to recognise the symptoms, the importance of early diagnosis and share tips on preventing the disease. This is accompanied by images shot by sports photographer John Davis, showing current players Harry Kane, Joe Hart, Jordan Henderson and Gary Cahill with the bowel area highlighted using CGI technology by design studio Vincent London. The Moore to Know campaign will appear on advertising billboards across the UK and on screens at Wembley Stadium during England’s World Cup Qualifier against Lithuania this weekend, and will have a presence in GP surgeries across the UK in the form of information leaflets. Bobby Moore’s widow and founder of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK, Stephanie Moore MBE, said: “The ‘Moore to Know’ campaign is absolutely vital in helping us reach millions of men and women who don’t usually give much thought to health messages. Having the current and former England players tell the nation to take notice, listen and learn about bowel cancer will have a huge impact and could save thousands – if not millions - of lives.”
