ELDRED TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) - On Valentine's Day it's all about the heart shaped cards, candies and chocolates. But one man in the Poconos got the best gift of all; a new heart.
"It was definitely scary", Thomas Ross said.
Thomas Ross has gone through a lot in the past eight months and he was given a second chance at life. Ross delivers restaurant supplies for a living, so he's used to carrying heavy equipment. But after moving a refrigerator one day, he knew something wasn't right. A doctor agreed, telling Ross his lungs were filling with blood. But that wasn't all.
"He in turn also said you need to see a cardiac specialist as well. You need a second opinion because it's not just your lungs, it's something else", Tom said.
The then 35-year-old found out a virus attacked his heart, which was seriously failing. A normal heart operates at 50 percent. Tom's was only at 10 percent. Continue reading
