Applications for Amazon Literary Partnership’s 2022 grants are open until the end of this month, 31 January.

The Amazon Literary Partnership is now in its third year in the UK. Applicants must be a registered nonprofit organisation, with a core mission of developing emerging writers, supporting diversity, celebrating storytelling, and/or building authors’ careers.

The application criteria states that organisations should be ‘structurally and financially sound; display energy, passion, and reach; have an online presence and an enthusiastic membership or readership.’

In 2021, the Amazon Literary Partnership supported a variety of literary groups – 23 in total – ranging from organisations managing after school workshops, to writers’ retreats with specially-devised programmes to cater for deaf writers, through to organisations running their own literary festivals to highlight the words and work of underrepresented writers, and groups providing a platform for budding scriptwriters.

Grant recipients included: Africa Writes, Arvon, First Story, Harrogate International Festivals, and Kernow Education.

By funding organisations that champion the voices of underrepresented writers, it hopes to encourage people to write (and read) about a greater variety of perspectives. In the US, it has been running since 2009, providing more than $14 million in funding to hundreds of organisations in this time.

Following the 31 January deadline, this year’s grant recipients will be notified by 16 May.
