A NEW memorial honouring those who have donated their organs to help save lives has been unveiled.
The garden memorial is not yet open at Burton's Queen's Hospital but can be viewed by patients and visitors.
Dozens of birds have been placed on the windows and walls of a hospital garden.
The garden has been named Another Chance to Fly – tying in nicely with the birds and representing the second chance many people get after receiving an organ donation.
Chairman of the NHS Blood and Transplant authority at Burton's Queen's Hospital, William Saunders, was happy to see the memorial near completion.
He said: "I think it is important we have something that serves as a memory for those families who have a very difficult time but have given a chance to enhance someone else's life.
"The name is the closest thing we have to the birds flying but also links to giving someone another chance to a better life.
"I'm very pleased to see it – we have been talking about this for two or three years and now it has come to fruition. Continue reading
