The animals wear jackets with contactless payment readers in the pocket so donors can tap their card and donate £2 to The Blue Cross

As Britain moves closer to becoming a cashless society – with debit cards and contactless payments now accounting for more than half of all payments – one animal charity is looking to make the most of it.

The Blue Cross has recruited a new squad of dogs to roam around fundraising events in jackets with contactless payment readers attached. By tapping a dog’s coat with a debit or credit card, members of the public will instantly donate £2 to the charity.
