SPEARFISH, S.D. (KOTA TV) It was just a few weeks ago when Tami Otis surprised and reveled to her cousin Mike Piper that she will be his kidney donor.
Otis went through a series of tests and after nearly 7 months, became a perfect kidney match for Piper. Piper has been on the donor list for almost 2 years and sick for about 6. Piper told us he started to lose hope after dozens of friends and family members volunteered to be a living donor, but were not a match.
Living donors can donate one kidney, one lung, or a portion of a liver, pancreas or intestine.
February 8th, Piper and Otis will undergo the transplant surgery. Recovery will be quick for piper, but it will take a little more time for Otis. Otis says she's happy she can donate and doesn't want to see her cousin suffer anymore. Continue reading
