GambleAware has published the full list of donations and pledges it received during the first and second quarter of this financial year 2021-22, totalling £10.6 million.
This sum was given in the form of voluntary donations from the gambling industry, and excludes regulatory settlements and additional donations. The full list of organisations and the amount donated is available to view in full here, and ranges from as little as £7 to as much as £4 million.
Currently, GambleAware asks all those who profit from gambling in Britain to donate a minimum of 0.1% of their Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) annually direct to GambleAware under guidance issued by the Gambling Commission. The £10.6 million received includes increased contribution levels from the leading operators who committed to raise the percentage of GGY they donate from 0.1% in increments to 1% by 2023. The leading operators’ pledged percentage contribution this year is 0.5% of GGY.
The funds donated to GambleAware go towards activity delivered against the charity’s four commissioning objectives, and supports of a collaborative, whole-system approach to the prevention of gambling harms.
To achieve its vision of a society safe from gambling harms, GambleAware is currently delivering more than 40 workstreams. This activity includes services and programmes such as:
- The National Gambling Treatment Service, which includes the begambleaware.org website, National Gambling Helpline and treatment services across Great Britain
- The Gambling Education Hub, which is being expanded to England and Wales
- The Annual Great Britain Treatment & Support Survey, and interactive maps, which show the reported demand for treatment and support across the country
- National prevention and awareness campaigns such as Bet Regret and the National Gambling Treatment Service campaign
