It’s World Cancer Day today, and around the globe charities are using it as a platform to increase awareness, raise funds, and thank supporters. Here are 3 snippets of fundraising news from the UK.

eBay & Cancer Research UK launch designer auction

To raise awareness for today’s ‘World Cancer Day’ and raise funds, eBay and Cancer Research UK are launching a charity auction with designer bargains up for grabs for as little as 99p.

One of eBay for Charity’s biggest on-site charity retailers, Cancer Research UK will be auctioning off pre-loved designer garments with all proceeds going to the charity. Buyers can also choose to Give at Checkout for anything purchased on eBay throughout the week.

The one-off auction starts at 10am and will end at 8pm on Sunday.

World Cancer Day also marks Cancer Research UK’s 20th birthday – although its history goes back to 1902 when one of its forerunners, the Imperial Cancer Research Fund was founded.

It is asking people to show their support today by buying and wearing a Unity Band – the charity’s symbol for support for World Cancer Day 2022, fundraising or donating.

Jules von Hep smiles as he wears a t-shirt he has designed for Young Lives vs Cancer & World Cancer Day

Limited edition t-shirt to raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer

A limited-edition t-shirt designed by Jules Von Hep (above), creator of self-tan brand The Isle of Paradise, is also going on sale today to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer.

This is the second time Von Help, who is an ambassador for the charity, has designed a T-shirt for Young Lives vs Cancer after last year’s limited-edition World Cancer Day version raised over £19,500 to help young people facing cancer.

This year, he wants to promote body positivity with a slogan tee featuring the words ‘Hope looks good on you’. T-shirts will be sold in the charity’s online shop and produced by Teemill.com, a sustainable company that only prints as an order comes in to minimise waste. It is available in both adults and children’s sizes.

Young Lives vs Cancer has launched the t-shirt as part of its World Cancer 2022 campaign, which encourages young people with cancer to celebrate their achievements as well as their peers, during and after treatment.

Burton & Dorothy Perkins show support for Breast Cancer Now & Prostate Cancer UK

Breast Cancer Now and Prostate Cancer UK have come together this World Cancer Day to shine a spotlight on the UK’s most common cancers.

With 11,500 women dying of breast cancer and 11,500 men dying of prostate cancer each year in the UK, the charities have joined forces to bust common myths and misconceptions about the two cancers and help people distinguish important health facts from fiction via an online quiz.

As well as setting the record straight, the charities will signpost people to the support and information they provide for anyone affected by breast cancer or prostate cancer.

Additionally, Breast Cancer Now’s charity partner, Dorothy Perkins, and Prostate Cancer UK’s charity partner, Burton, are donating 5% of all sales made between 4-6 February to support the charities’ vital work. The retailers will also share content across their own channels to raise awareness of breast and prostate cancer among their customers.
