For the Lego brand’s 90th anniversary, the Lego Foundation is giving out grants worth 900 million Danish Kroner (over £100 million) to help give children the best start in life.

Through its Build a World of Play Challenge, it is looking for solutions designed to meaningfully impact the wellbeing and holistic development of young children (from birth to age six) in a sustainable way. As well as transforming early childhood experiences ideas should address global social issues that impact young children’s lives.

Ideas, it says, must be ‘impactful, feasible, community-centred, and sustainable’, and organisations worldwide can apply.

Up to ten finalists will be selected this September. Each finalist will receive DKK 6.5 million (approximately £730,000) to strengthen their proposed plan, start building their team, and scale up to successfully implement their innovation. Selecting from amongst the finalist organisations, the LEGO Foundation will announce up to five awards by the end of 2022. There will be three grants awarded for DKK 200 million (around £22.5 million) each and two grants awarded for DKK 100 million (approximately £11.23 million) each.

The deadline is 7 April.
