For more than two years Kim Yarbrough, 52, waited to receive a kidney transplant.
In 2011, the Detroit resident went to the doctor because she was experiencing headaches. Doctors told her her blood pressure was too high. Her uncontrolled blood pressure lead to kidney disease that she wasn’t able reverse despite lifestyle changes.
In December 2013, Yarbrough had to begin dialysis. Her family members began to get tested to see if they could donate a kidney.
Yarbrough’s daughter, Markeshia Valentine, 32, of Dearborn Heights was really hoping she would be a match. She didn’t want her mother sitting on the donor waiting list for years, hoping for a new kidney. But Valentine wasn’t a match for her mother. None of her family members were either. Continue reading
