SAGINAW, MI — Ed McArdle has a hero and doesn't even know their name.

Fifteen years ago, an organ donor died and McArdle received the kidney transplant that has extended his life.

"I'm very blessed that I'm living life in the bonus round and I've had extended play for well more years than I really expected," he said.

That's one reason the 51-year-old Saginaw Township man decided to pay it forward by adding his own name to the organ donor registry.

Even an organ transplant recipient can sign up as a donor.

Dissolving myths

Tim Makinen, communications director for Gift of Life Michigan, said one of the most common myths about organ donation is that your organs are no good if you have health problems.
