According to national organization Donate Life, donor organs are always in short supply with the demand far exceeding the supply of healthy organs. Becoming a living donor can help. Living donation is when a healthy person donates tissue, bone marrow or an organ (or part of an organ) for transplantation to another person.

The need for organ donation continues to grow.

You can certainly also pledge your organs upon death (whether on your Driver's License or through one of many donor registries), but you can also donate right now. For instance, a liver transplant recipient only needs a small donated piece of a liver; the partial liver grows after donation, for both the donor and recipient. In a kidney transplant, the donor's remaining kidney strengthens to compensate for the missing organ.
