TORRINGTON — Thanksgiving, Mike Wallace had to stay positive when he learned a potential organ donor who could save his life could not go through with the operation. New Year's Day, patience and optimism may have paid off.
Wallace expects to enjoy a healthier 2016 with a transplanted kidney and looks forward to traveling again after three years of enduring more than nine hours of nightly peritoneal dialysis due to kidney disease.
Wallace, owner of Southworth's Wayside Furniture, is scheduled to receive a kidney donated by a Torrington customer during a transplant operation at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Tuesday.
Donor Steve Rylander said he volunteered to go through the screening process upon hearing of Wallace's dire situation in late September. Continue reading
