Kidney donation from the heart in Spring Township

Reading Eagle: Susan L. Angstadt | Marleny Jimenez recently received a kidney from her longtime boyfriend Fernando Malpica after two years of having kidney failure. They're holding their 3-month-old Chihuahua, Max, at their apartment in Spring Township

There are plenty of reasons Fernando Malpica and Marleny Jimenez are happy to have each other.The Spring Township couple met about six years ago at Reading Area Community College while taking an English as a second language course. Since then, they've spent their downtime playing sports, getting closer and just enjoying life in Berks County.

Malpica, 24, a native of Peru, said it didn't take long for him to notice his classmate."Her personality, she's amazing," he said. "And of course, she is very beautiful."

Jimenez, 22, originally from the Dominican Republic, said: "He's an amazing guy. I met him there (at RACC). He was such a nice friend. We just became something more." Continue reading
