It’s not every day that organ transplant recipients know who their donor is, let alone drive in the same car together to the Toronto General Hospital for a life-saving operation.
But that’s exactly how it all went down last fall with Jenn Bruno and her best friend’s dad, Tony Pasqua, who needed a transplant after his liver had been attacked by multiple cancerous tumours.
The Ottawa residents have known each for more than 20 years, so it was no surprise that Bruno jumped at the chance to donate 75 per cent of her liver to him once she found out she was a perfect match.
“To me, it was totally meant to be, so I was excited to do it,” recalled Bruno after a sitting down to a bowl of gnocchi at Pasqua’s home last Tuesday evening. Continue reading
