Sony Pictures Television Networks has created a free image app to enable people to support Picture This, its global campaign to encourage efforts to preserve and protect the environment.

The app can be used to take and post “images of a better world”. They can be urban or rural landscapes, showing for example a carefully-tended urban allotment, clean waterways, or a person recycling unwanted items.

Andy Kaplan, president of worldwide networks for Sony Pictures Television, said:

“Through photo storytelling, we’re inviting everyone to capture and share images of a better place, a more sustainable community and a cleaner environment”.

The Picture This app, which is available for Android and iOS, has been developed by interactive design and development specialists REDspace.

The Picture This campaign began in Autumn 2015 in 30 languages. It aims to “bring attention to environmental issues in the networks’ footprint of 178 countries around the world”.

The company’s networks are using on-air and social media resources and community events to support the campaign.

In the UK the campaign has focused on clothes waste and encouraging circular and sustainable shopping. Sony is working with clothing charity TRAID which helps to turn clothes waste into funds and resources in order to reduce the environmental and social impacts of clothing. Sony Pictures Television UK has donated more than 200kg worth of clothing, over the past six months.
