Sparta celebrates donate life month

SPARTA — Have you noticed the blue and green ribbons adorning the light posts around town? Have you been wondering what they represent and how they got there? Sparta residents who are members of NJ Sharing Network’s Sussex Warren Donate Life Group tied the ribbons around town as an awareness activity for Donate Life Month. This national initiative is a campaign to increase awareness about organ and tissue donation. 

Currently, there are 122,000 people waiting for life-saving organ transplants, including 5,000 people in New Jersey and 6 in Sparta. Unfortunately, 22 people die each day waiting for a transplant. The ribbons are a reminder of the need for registered organ and tissue donors. They also serve to honor those who gave the gift of life, pay tribute to those who have received transplants, offer hope to those who continue to wait and remember the lives lost while waiting for the gift of life.
