Amnesty International UK announces Sacha Deshmukh as permanent Chief Executive
Deshmukh has been acting as interim Chief Executive of the human rights organisation since May 2021. Prior to joining Amnesty UK, he was Executive Director of Unicef UK, and spent six years as Chair of the Board of War Child UK. He was also previously the Deputy Chair of Citizens Advice England & Wales, and Chief Executive of Smart Energy GB from 2013 to 2020. Deshmukh is also a non-executive director of the Fundraising Regulator. His appointment follows a comprehensive selection process with 50 applicants, nine of which were longlisted. This was then reduced to four very strong candidates, all of whom provided a detailed written application, completed two psychometric tests, engaged with two key stakeholder groups (the Senior Management Team and staff/union), and participated in a final formal interview with a panel comprised of Section and Trust Board members and a union observer.
David Sinclair takes on CEO role at International Longevity Centre
David Sinclair has taken on the role of Chief Executive of International Longevity Centre – UK (ILC) following a detailed selection process by the Board, Sinclair was previously ILC Director. ILC-UK Chief Executive Baroness Greengross is moving into a new role of Executive President at the International Longevity Centre (ILC). She has led the International Longevity Centre as Chief Executive for 25 years since its inception in 1997.
Dame Ann Limb joins Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales as Chair of Trustees
Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales has announced educationalist and business leader Dame Ann Limb DBE DL as Chair of Trustees. She is joined by activist Bushra Ahmed, small charity CEO Cherrie Bija and start-up entrepreneur Claud Williams. The voluntary roles will be essential in shaping the charity’s mission as it prepares to launch its new three-year strategy. With extensive experience as a charity trustee and chair, Dame Ann is a butcher’s daughter who grew-up in Moss Side, Manchester. She is Chair of The UK Innovation Corridor, Chair of the City & Guilds of London Institute, Deputy Chair of The Prince’s Foundation and Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Buckinghamshire, where she has lived since 1986. In September 2015, she became the first female and LBGTQ Chair of The Scout Association in its 108-year history.
Sustrans announces Moray Macdonald s new Chair of Trustees
Macdonald, who currently sits on the Sustrans Board, replaces outgoing chair Lynne Berry CBE who is stepping down after four and half years. He brings with him over 25 years of experience in public affairs and public relations. This includes acting as a senior political adviser in Scotland and New Zealand. He is currently Group Head of Public Policy at international business communications consultancy Instinctif Partners, and previously worked at Weber Shandwick. As Managing Director he led the agency’s content production studios across the UK and Europe, and for eight years he was Managing Director of the firm’s three offices in Scotland.
Jayne Clarke joins London’s Air Ambulance Charity as Director of Fundraising & Marketing
London’s Air Ambulance Charity has announced the appointment Jayne Clarke as its new Director of Fundraising and Marketing. Clarke has had a number of high-profile roles within both the charity and private sectors. Having worked as the UK marketing lead for ethical bank Triodos, she the moved to the RNLI, taking her first steps into the voluntary sector. Whilst at the RNLI she oversaw the Marketing, Media, Philanthropy, Corporate and Legacy teams, before a move to St Peter’s Hospice as Director of Income Generation, heading up the marketing, communications, fundraising and retail teams.
Magic Breakfast elects Aniela Shuckburgh as new Chair of Board of Trustees
Shuckburgh takes over from Joanne Thompson, who has been Trustee and Chair since May 2019, and has worked in the not-for-profit sector in both the UK and US, primarily in the youth and education sector. Her experience has focused on high-level strategic fundraising for organisations including the Harvard Business School, City Year UK, and The University of Cambridge, where she was a member of the senior management team responsible for delivering its £1 billion 800th Anniversary Campaign. Shuckburgh also helped to set up Impact 100 London, serves on the Board of British Youth Music Theatre, and volunteers for Little Village Camden. Magic Breakfast has also welcomed two new trustees to the board, Jackie Newell, and Julie Harkness. Harkness is the Vice Principal at Carr Manor Community School, Leeds, and Newell is is Headteacher at secondary school, Hollybrook Academy, Glasgow.
