Mina.Minerva is an 11-minute short film about identical twins facing the prospect

One of the great things about the Calgary International Film Festival is that there are so many local films and artists in the mix.

Last year one of the best received short films was local filmmaker Spencer Estabrooks’ sci-fi spoof Sharkasaurus, which he filmed in the Badlands.

He’s excited to report that Sharkasaurus has “become a real hit on the festival circuit.

“I keep getting updates from festivals.”

Estabrooks is back this year with Legend of the Lich Lord, his first feature length film and a spin-off of his popular Internet web series, One Hit Die.

“Legend of the Lich Lord has more characters, more action, more magic and more comedy than One Hit Die.

“We’ve really gone weird with this one,” promised Estabrooks.

He describes Lich Lord as “Lord of the Rings shot like The Office with a heavy dose of Monty Python style humour.” Continue reading
