Donate Life' flag flies high at UVM Medical Center

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The end of one life brings a second chance for another. Through organ donation, families find ways to ease the pain of losing their loved ones.

For Jim Carter, the pain of losing his daughter has never gone away.

"Years ago, seems like 25 minutes ago some days," said Carter.

In 1990, his daughter, a senior at Mount Mansfield High, was killed in a car crash.

Donna Andre understands Carter's loss.

"You treated Ben as royalty. He was a prince and you treated him as such," said Andre.

In March, Andre's son, Ben, died in a car wreck at just 23 years old.

Out of both deaths has come life.

"This is our daughter, Andrea, who a number of years ago was involved in a car crash in Jericho and became an organ donor at this hospital," said Carter. Continue reading
