Enfield Mom Remembers Daughter By Raising Money To Promote Organ Donation

For the sixth straight year, Enfield resident Joann Meyers will be raising money for LifeChoice Donor Services in honor of her daughter, Kym Meyers, who died in 2010.

Kym, who was 19, died from cirrhosis of the liver while waiting for a transplant.

Joann began organizing the first fundraiser with friends Sara Mimoso, Amanda Toner and Karen Bell,when Kym was still alive. Kym died before the event was held.

This year's Kym's Kause event is a departure from the motorcycle rides held in the past. Instead, the group is hosting a beer and wine tasting, along with food pairings from food trucks, at the Four Town Fairgrounds in Somers on Oct. 3 from 1 to 6 p.m.

"We're hoping to have a larger crowd than we've had in the past," Joann said.

Last year, the event raised around $10,000, an increase from the $7,000 raised in each of the first four years. This year, organizers have set a goal of $15,000 for the event called Hops For Hope. Continue reading
