Charity and public law specialists Bates Wells Braithwaite are hosting an event in September that will examine the role of crowdfunding in transforming access to justice. It will feature the work of CrowdJustice, a crowdfunding platform established just over a year ago that helps people and organisations raise funds to help them with their legal cases.

The platform has already helped claimants raise over £1 million for legal cases. These include significant national  campaigns and legal challenges such as the junior doctors’ challenge to the imposition of contracts, the Chilcot inquiry, and the Supreme Court intervention on the doctrine of joint enterprise.

Charities and NGOs have also used the platform of their legal campaigns, such as ISCRE’s legal work tackling workplace discrimination.

Indeed, the free event, held at BWB’s new offices in 10 Queen Street Place, London, on 28 September 2016 will focus on the potential of crowdfunding sites like CrowdJustice to harness an alternative source of funding for charities and campaigning groups to continue to mount judicial reviews and public interest litigation.

The event, Crowdfunding judicial reviews: harnessing the power of the crowd to change or challenge the law, will feature speakers from Crowdjustice and BWB.
