Beth Swarbrigg, Fundraising Director at Hospice in the Weald for three years, was one of nine rising stars in the fundraising firmament selected to speak at the Institute of Fundraising’s Fundraising Convention earlier this month.
New to Convention 2016, the Rising Stars session featured fundraisers from across the sector speaking at convention for the very first time. They spoke on stage at the Barbican concert hall in London, with just nine minutes to get their fundraising idea across.
Swarbrigg argued, contentiously, that “there is no place for hope in fundraising”. As her presentation unfolded, however, it became clear she meant by this that there should be no room for hoping that a fundraising campaign might work. Instead she urges her colleagues to plan, understand and measure what they do to help ensure they reach their fundraising targets.
