Shawn Zimmerman thought he had heard his little girl's final heartbeat in March when 14-year-old Katelyn died after being struck by a drunk driver in Florida.
But on Monday, the father-of-three, who also lost his son Dylan, put on a stethoscope and heard, once again, Katelyn's heart pumping strongly in the chest of a bright 14-year-old boy, Alj Jefferies.
'It put us at peace knowing that Katelyn's heart is still beating, even though it's not in her,' Shawn Zimmerman told Alj's family in a touching moment at a North Carolina hospital when the families met for the first time, as reported Monday by FOX8.
Alj got a new life in March when, after struggling since infancy with heart disease, he received a lifesaving transplant from Katelyn.
