An informational session on organ donation was held at the Sterling Senior Center on Feb. 22 in light of Sterling Firefighter Lt. David Johnson’s need of a kidney transplant.
Speakers at the evening session included Al Desher, a Shirley firefighter who received a kidney about a year ago, Retired Fire Chief Mike Murphy who donated a kidney to his sister in 1975 and received a kidney from a stranger two years ago, David DiMeco and his wife Melissa, of Sterling, who gave David a kidney last year. The DiMecos represent Donate Life New England which gives information and encourages people to become organ donors. The guests each spoke about their experiences with organ donation. Continue reading
