Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) has received over £100,000 in cryptocurrency donations in the last 12 months alone.

The charity, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, has the capability to receive donations in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency and recently received a one-off donation of over £70,000, which it believes is the largest cryptocurrency donation ever made to a UK charity.

Substantial donations have also been made by MoonBoys Finance, HOPE TOKEN and Dan Bainbridge, a long-term supporter who pledged just over $10,000 to the charity.

The donations were made using the platform The Giving Block, which CHUF works with to accept cryptocurrency.

Charlotte Campbell, Head of Fundraising for CHUF said:

“As a small charity you have to be brave when it comes to fundraising, now more than ever. After a lot of research, we decided to partner with The Giving Block, a platform which allows us to accept cryptocurrency donations safely and easily.

“It’s been quite a journey since we first started the process to seeing donations of £10,000, £20,000 even £70,000 come through – as a fundraiser that will always be incredibly exciting. We are beyond grateful to the generous donors who have made it possible for CHUF to continue to bring smiles to the faces of Heart Heroes across the UK.

“As a sector we must be bolder and more curious when it comes to new technologies, if we want to continue to thrive then we have to adapt to new ways of fundraising. The cryptocurrency world moves so fast, which can be unnerving to some charities, but its also incredibly exciting. The crypto community has really embraced us as one of their own and we are incredibly grateful to be able to work with people who are so passionate about having a positive impact on the world.”
