Here are five recent appointments in the charity / fundraising world, including new CEOs for St Elizabeth Hospice, Young Citizens, and the Centre for Ageing Better, and a Fundraising Manager for AbScent.
Judi Newman becomes CEO of St Elizabeth Hospice
Independent Suffolk charity St Elizabeth Hospice has announced the appointment of Judi Newman as its new CEO. Previously serving as Development Director at the hospice, Newman has more than 25 years’ experience working in the charitable and public sectors in local, national and international organisations. Her career has seen her work for such charities as Oxfam and Research Autism, before a love of Suffolk brought her and her family to move to the region over a decade ago, which also saw her join Suffolk Community Foundation as Development Director.
AbScent hires Angela Lathwell as Fundraising Manager
Following a year of unprecedented growth, AbScent is to bolster its team with a range of senior, strategic hires. Among them, Angela Lathwell joins as Fundraising Manager responsible for developing a robust programme of corporate and individual donation. Lathwell is a seasoned fundraising professional previously at the Southampton Hospital Charity and The Gurkha Welfare Trust. The charity is also hiring Sarah Oakley as Executive Director responsible for marketing and strategic direction, and Green Row Communications to implement a consumer and trade PR programme to raise awareness of smell loss, and increase the charity’s profile.
Lin Hinnigan joins Home-Start UK as Chair of Trustees
Home-Start UK has appointed Lin Hinnigan as Chair of Trustees. Previously Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Board and has been a director and Chief Executive of a number of public bodies and within the Civil Service. She has led organisations responsible for the regulation of social work, the development of the school curriculum, assessment and qualifications, and the oversight of teacher training and development. Hinnigan takes up the role at Home-Start UK alongside her existing Chairing roles at Make A Wish and Working Chance. Hinnigan will take up her new role in September 2021 and will succeed the outgoing Chair, Felicity Clarkson CBE, who has served the Board in this role for six years.
Ashley Hodges joins Young Citizens as CEO
Young Citizens has announced the appointment of Ashley Hodges to the role of CEO to lead the charity into a new phase of growth – and continue its mission to put citizenship education at the heart of primary and secondary education in the UK. The former Speakers for Schools and AccessEd leader will lead a team of twenty and oversee the strategic development of Young Citizen’s work. Prior to joining Young Citizens, Hodges served as transitional CEO at AccessEd, the global university access start-up serving under-represented young people (2019-2021) after helping launch and eventually lead the UK social mobility charity Speakers for Schools as their first CEO (2010-2019). Her previous work includes roles in communications and community engagement consultancy, as well as serving as a Pennsylvania staff member on the successful Obama for America election campaign in 2008. Hodges is also a trustee of Elizabeth House community centre and a governor of Welbourne Primary School.
Dr Carole Easton OBE appointed interim Chief Executive at Centre for Ageing Better
The Centre for Ageing Better has appointed Dr Carole Easton OBE as interim Chief Executive, taking over from Dr Anna Dixon, who announced she was leaving in March 2021, until a permanent replacement is found. Easton’s previous roles include Interim Chief Executive at Refuge, Interim Joint Chief Executive at the British Lung Foundation and Chief Executive at the Young Women’s Trust. She is also an experienced non-executive director, Trustee and Chair. She currently sits on the Board of Advance, a charity that works with women who have experienced domestic abuse to be safe and take control of their lives, and women who have committed crime or are at risk of offending. She is also vice-Chair at the Fulham College Academy Trust.
