FISHKILL – For a man just six days past donating a kidney to a man he had never before met, Rabbi Zalman Sandhaus looked astoundingly robust.
“Studies show that people who donate kidneys live a very healthy and long life,” said Sandhaus during an interview in his home. “So, I’m very confident in my life ahead.”
With the help of Rabbi Boruch Wolf, director of the Chabad at the Medical Centers on Long Island, Sandhaus was able to transplant his kidney to a dying 56-year-old father of three. Jack Hananya, from Long Island, had been suffering end-stage renal failure before the Fishkill rabbi came to his rescue.
