Every day in the world, about 80 people receive organ transplants, according to organdonor.gov.
On the same day, about 22 people die waiting for an organ transplant that never arrives, the website stated.
Yorkville resident Ryan Jackman, 34, is one of the fortunate ones. He received a pancreas transplant earlier this year.
“The average person may think organ donation is a minor thing, but I’m still recovering from the transplant itself,” he said. “I’m taking between 30 to 40 pills a day, but I wouldn’t be here right now if not for my donor. I would give the world to let the donor know how grateful I am today.”
