Cristina Cinca, 14, got a new chance at life a year ago. The Brevard community will cheer her — and organ donation — during a walk Sunday in Cocoa Beach.

In the months that followed, mom Heather was thinking ahead.
"We're coming up on her year anniversary and we're trying to figure out, how are we going to celebrate?" Heather Cinca said of her 14-year-old daughter. "We knew we would have some kind of party, we knew so many people wanted to be a part of the celebration that love her so much. And I got an email from the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation."
The nonprofit's mass mailing was announcing a first-ever walk in New Jersey to raise awareness for the pediatric heart disease. Planned for September – Pediatric Cardiomyopathy Awareness Month – it encouraged others to host their own local events.
"What better way to celebrate Cristina's life than by organizing a hometown walk, and at the same time, raising money and funds for them to celebrate Cristina's transplant?" Cinca said. Continue reading
