Will be honored at Rose Parade

When Sisto Fuentes told his family he wanted to be an organ and tissue donor, he probably didn’t realize one of the lives he would save would be his older brother’s friend. But that is exactly what happened, and Sisto, along with others will be honored on the 2016 Donate Life Tournament of Roses Parade float in Pasadena.

Sisto, of Porterville, passed away on Feb. 25, 2014 at the young age of 31. Although his driver’s license did not indicate he was an organ donor, he had talked with his family before and said he wanted to be a donor.

“We had the conversation when he was 16 years old,” Freddie Fuentes, Sisto’s older brother said.

Sisto donated six of his vital organs and his corneas. In an amazing twist of fate, Sisto’s heart and right kidney saved the life of Freddie’s friend, George, who received the organ donation.

“It’s incredible. It fills my heart with joy and fills my family’s heart with joy,” Freddie said. Continue reading
