Another vote to allow young drivers to affirm organ donation wishes

The state Senate’s active list for Monday includes a bill sponsored by Kemp Hannon, R-Long Island, that would allow New Yorkers as young as 16 to state their desire to become eye, organ or tissue donors. Parents of 16- and 17-year-olds, however, would have the final say on whether their child’s organs could be harvested.

The bill’s justification memo notes that New York is one of only five states that require you to be 18 or older to enroll. The state’s Donate Life Registry currently ranks 51st out of the nation’s 52 existing registries.
