The death of a family member is rarely an easy experience, but saying goodbye to one’s child can be even harder.

In the case of Jeff and Sherry Ruby, they received a bittersweet ending after finding that the death of their son helped give life to many others because he was a registered organ donor.

His actions didn’t go unnoticed. A photo of their son, Christopher Ruby, was placed on the back of the Xfinity Series No. 52 car driven by Joey Gase during the Boyd Gaming 300 Xfinity race earlier this month.

“When I saw his photo out on the racetrack, it just took my breath away,” Sherry said. “There he was on the back of a race car with a big smile on his face. It looked like he was just enjoying the ride. It felt so good just seeing him there.”

The race held a special significance for the Rubys as one of Christopher’s greatest passions and chosen career field was the automotive industry. Continue reading
